If candles aren’t appropriate for the setting you’re creating then you can get a similar effect from a plasma lamp or lava lamp. At the same time these give you the added benefit of having a slow and fairly hypnotic movement (of either the plasma or the lava) which can help add to the relaxed atmosphere. At the same time you should set the heating to a fairly warm and comfortable level that will allow you to feel restful. If it’s too cool then you will have the opposite effect, making the people in the room alert and energetic (this is a trick they use in audiences to keep them more focussed on the show). If you have it too warm however it will cause the visitors to fall asleep. A final addition to the ultimate relaxed room is either a fish tank or a water feature. Either will give you the soothing natural sounds of running water, and with a fish tank you’ll also have the peaceful fish to watch which can again be almost hypnotic. Obviously a fish tank will cost more to maintain, but also has the other added bonus of casting the light from the water across the whole room (and water is always tranquil). An alternative is a water feature with a virtual fish tank to try and get some of the benefits of having both.
